Wulfenite Properties
Wulfenite is a lead molybdate mineral with the formula PbMoO4. It can be most often found as thin tabular crystals with a bright orange-red to yellow-orange color, sometimes brown, although the color can be highly variable.
Wulfenite has the following physical and chemical properties:
- Color: Bright orange-red to yellow-orange, sometimes brown
- Crystal System: Tetragonal
- Crystal Habits: Tabular and prismatic crystals, often with beveled edges; also as granular and scaly masses
- Cleavage: Imperfect on {110}
- Fracture: Conchoidal
- Hardness: 2.5-3.5 on Mohs scale
- Luster: Adamantine to resinous
- Streak: Yellow
- Specific Gravity: 6.5
- Transparency: Transparent to translucent
- Optical Properties: Uniaxial (-), may be anomalously biaxial due to strain
