Wulfenite has the following physical and chemical properties:

  • Color: Bright orange-red to yellow-orange, sometimes brown
  • Crystal System: Tetragonal
  • Crystal Habits: Tabular and prismatic crystals, often with beveled edges; also as granular and scaly masses
  • Cleavage: Imperfect on {110}
  • Fracture: Conchoidal
  • Hardness: 2.5-3.5 on Mohs scale
  • Luster: Adamantine to resinous
  • Streak: Yellow
  • Specific Gravity: 6.5
  • Transparency: Transparent to translucent
  • Optical Properties: Uniaxial (-), may be anomalously biaxial due to strain
