Dyed Quartz bangle sold as natural imperial jadeite jade

Image
Those gems materials which have pores surface or having surface reaching craks are introduction of colouring material into a gemstone to give it a new colour, intensify present colour or improve colour uniformity. For example Agate, carnelian, chalcedony, coral, ivory, jade, opal, pearl, quartz, turquoise etc. The Quartz bangles which are shown below in picture is colored to make imitation of imperial Jadeite Jade and also sold in the name imperial Jadeite Jade in Market.   For more information of treatment and  detectation of treatment please visit the following  link Gemstone Treatment and their Detection Method. Detection:  Magnification (concentrations of dye visible in veins and cracks), Spectroscope (Broad absorption bands due to chromium slats used as a dye), Most organic dyes will stain a swab moistened with acetone.                                        ...

Hexagonal Color Growth Zoning in the Emerald of panjshir valley Afghanistan

Image
A nice cabochon of color bluish green emerald of panjshir valley Afghanistan, weighing 6 carat plus is received by local Peshawar based laboratory CIGTL-Gemological Laboratory Pakistan. In the study it is observed that to get purest, best and deepest color the cabochon was cut on the c-axis orientation. When the piece is seen from the top the beautiful hexagonal growth zoning  was observed. The emerald cab has minor clarity enhanced because of  the presence of very few surface reaching cracking. Aquamarine that has been dyed and marketed as a natural emerald

Image
Dyed aquamarine sold as a natural emerald  Recently our lab CIGTL-Pakistan received a green stone for confirmation whether it is an emerald or an imitation of an emerald. When properly checked on the different gemological instruments, it is observed that the stone belongs to a beryl group. But when seen through a gemological microscope the color concentration in cracks is observed. The light blue color is also observed in the corner and in the middle where it is free from cracks. So be aware of this type of material. Before buying gemstones first test in a reputed laboratory or, buy from a reputed seller.   Dyed aquamarine sold as a natural emerald  Dyed aquamarine sold as a natural emerald  Dyed aquamarine sold as a natural emerald

The polariscope (polarization)

Image
Basic A polariscope is a gem identification tool that employs polarised light. There are two polarised filters on the instrument, one on top and one on the bottom. Both the polarizer and the analyzer have vibrational planes of their own. The field between them stays black when the polarizer's vibrational plane is at right angles to the analyzer's vibrational direction. The "crossed position" is the name for this pose. Gems can be examined in this position to see if they are: isotropic anomalously double refractive (ADR) anisotropic anisotropic aggregate Operation of the polariscope and possible observations Turn on the light source and set the gemstone on the rotating platform immediately above the polarizer with the polarizer and analyzer crossed (this platform might not always be present, in which case you use your tweezers). You'll get four options if you look at the gemstone via the analyser while gently spinning it. 1. The stone appears dark throughout ...

After 30 years of wearing a $13 ring, a woman discovers she is a millionaire.

How a woman sold a $13 waring ring at 656 thousand 750 pounds that’s almost $850 thousand dollars.  Woman realizes. She was duped. She looked at the woman and couldn't believe what just had been said. She thought the appraiser had just probably made a mistake. The woman had never been in a situation like that and suspected that...neither did the appraiser.   She had no idea where to turn. But, what she was told next. Made her instant royalty. Everything looked pretty old and worn out...and with only a couple of bucks in her pocket, she wanted her purchase to be worth every penny.   As she was eyeing the necklace on one of the stands she couldn’t help but notice the huge ring sparkling in the corner of her eye. She turns to the ring and knew that fate had brought her to it. The woman, who remains anonymous.   ...

Manganotantalite

Image
Manganotantalite The chemical element tantalum is mostly obtained from the mineral group tantalite [(Fe, Mn)Ta2O6]. It is chemically related to columbite, and in many mineral guides, the two are classed together as a semi-singular mineral termed coltan or "columbite-tantalite." Tantalite, on the other hand, has a substantially higher specific gravity than columbite (8.0+ vs. 5.2). Tantalite-(Fe) or ferrotantalite is iron-rich tantalite, whereas tantalite-(Mn) or manganotantalite is manganese-rich tantalite. Tantalite is a mineral that is extremely similar to tapiolite. The chemical makeup of the two minerals is identical, however, the crystal structure of tantalite and tapiolite is orthorhombic for tantalite and tetragonal for tapiolite.
