Manganotantalite
The chemical element tantalum is mostly obtained from the mineral group tantalite [(Fe, Mn)Ta2O6]. It is chemically related to columbite, and in many mineral guides, the two are classed together as a semi-singular mineral termed coltan or "columbite-tantalite." Tantalite, on the other hand, has a substantially higher specific gravity than columbite (8.0+ vs. 5.2). Tantalite-(Fe) or ferrotantalite is iron-rich tantalite, whereas tantalite-(Mn) or manganotantalite is manganese-rich tantalite.
Tantalite is a mineral that is extremely similar to tapiolite. The chemical makeup of the two minerals is identical, however, the crystal structure of tantalite and tapiolite is orthorhombic for tantalite and tetragonal for tapiolite.
